| When disaster strikes, Dain finds himself orphaned anew and struggling to survive in the sophisticated royal court of Mandria. Only the beautiful Lady Pheresa is kind to him, but she’s promised to Prince Gavril. Meanwhile, far away in Nether, the valiant princess Alexeika vows to continue the rebellion despite all odds in hopes that someday the rightful sovereign will return. |
| DC: I love to write about a good jousting competition. This story allowed
me to work in some of that kind of competitive sports action, as opposed
to the same old battle scenes. I found Alexeika’s storyline to be
the most enjoyable, especially in depicting her time as a captive in the
Grethori camp. It was a challenge to figure out how she was going to work
through that problem in a plausible way, demonstrating how brave, tough,
and resourceful she is. Additionally, this book allowed me an opportunity to work in some of the religious conflicts going on in Mandria and offer alternative kinds of magic besides that of the evil Nonkind. |
